Julia Romano is a novelist and playwright based in Columbus, Ohio. Two of her plays, “The Odyssey: A Comedy, Mostly” and “Murder in Manhattan” were published by Eldridge Plays and Musicals and have been staged by over 20 theatres in North America. Themes in Julia’s writing include Greek mythology, the bonds of family, class and power, journeying, and her former homes of New York and Boston. Her strengths lie in blending historical accuracy with modern relevance, balancing crisp dialogue with the darker moods of her content, and crafting complicated characters you may not agree with but you still want to root for. However, there is nothing more satisfying to her as a writer than devising a twist her audience did not expect. Julia has been writing creatively since childhood–she attempted to write her first novel at age 7 and completed her first play at age 11.

In addition to her creative writing, Julia has considerable experience editing academic research, particularly research and writing on nuclear policy. Her knowledge of nuclear policy is informed by her past working in foreign policy at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars. 

Julia earned a B.A. in Middle Eastern Studies from Wellesley College and a M.A. in Middle East Studies from the Elliott School at the George Washington University. She has traveled to Oman, Egypt, Jordan, and Turkey for her work. She lives in Columbus with her husband and son, where you can also find her teaching world history and English composition, taking lagree classes, or writing the next issue of her blog “Outfits, Ohio, and Other Things I Like.”

Her debut novel, Terra Incognita, is currently being beta-read by fellow English teachers, friends, and avid readers.
